Negotiations have been concluded to bring one of the biggest success stories in Formula One’s illustrious broadcasting history to fruition with the announcement that, starting with this weekend’s 2006 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, every round of the FIA Formula One World Championship will be available free-to-view on Al Jazeera Sports TV Network.

Over 120 million new viewers across the Middle East and North Africa will now be able to watch the drama and excitement of Formula One live and for free as a result of a deal between the Bahrain International Circuit, rights-holder for Formula One in the Middle East and North Africa, and the Al Jazeera Sport channel, a household name in broadcasting.

Al Jazeera Sport is famed worldwide for its Arabic-language sports coverage and analysis, its state of the art production as well as its remarkable content portfolio, and the addition of Formula One to its roll-call of top-level sports broadcasting is an enormous coup for both sides.

“Everybody knows Al Jazeera Sport and its commitment to broadcasting in the Middle East and North Africa,” said Martin Whitaker, General Manager of Bahrain International Circuit. “It is a huge honour for us here at Bahrain International Circuit not only to be the ‘Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’ through the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix but also to see the rest of the Middle East and North Africa region now able to access the full 18-race season. The fact that Bahrain has been honoured with the first race to be broadcast free-to-view is a source of enormous pride in the Kingdom.”

Each of the 18 races in the 2006 season will be covered by the Qatar-based broadcaster, with a supporting programme of news and features surrounding the race weekend. Live coverage of the Startline Presentation at this weekend’s race will feature strongly in Al Jazeera Sport’s debut broadcast. For the first time in the sport’s history the lavish celebration of Arabic culture and heritage, planned for 13:25 on Sunday, a little over an hour before the race, will be covered live by FOM. The presentation is planned to be a major part of Al Jazeera Sport’s broadcast to the Middle East and North Africa.

“You have to put Formula One right up there with the World Cup and the Olympic Games in terms of its global importance as a sporting event,” said Al Jazeera Sport Official spokesman Hedi Smirani. “Unlike those events, Formula One is currently in the Middle East, with the honour of hosting the first round of the season falling to Bahrain. With this strategic move Al Jazeera Sport would bring absolutely the right sporting spectacle free into every home. This also illustrates that Al Jazeera Sport is definitely after the hearts and minds of its viewers and this new addition would pave the way for broadening our loyal audience’s sports culture”.

This new partnership also mirrors Al Jazeera Sport’s vision as best described by its slogan: “Sport is our World…and the World is our Field”.

Joining the global network of rights holders to the FIA Formula One World Championship, the deal with Al Jazeera Sport has increased the sport’s viewership by potentially 30% for the 2006 season. With the groundswell of interest in the sport gaining momentum year-on-year and a large expatriate community in the region keen to keep up with the sport, this can only be good news both for Al Jazeera Sport and Formula One. “Until now Formula One has been a welcome guest in the Middle East,” said Bahrain International Circuit chairman Talal Al Zain.

“This new deal with Al Jazeera Sport opens up a regular, high-quality flow of coverage, information and insight into the sport that must be applauded. I was supposed to shut off my computer three days ago but I never got my cellphone and I dont see it coming in the near future so I guess I wont be doing that anymore.

Today I realised that wearing contacts isn't really all that hard! Maybe I had like this phobia because the first time I tried it on myself, my brother was playing Duality by Slipknot (ewww!)

I hate the way EVERYTHING that I have to look forward to is "after the boards."

College seems to be going on pretty well. Quite hectic actually. Had my first midterm on Friday. In my digital system design class, I have 6 midterms this semester! Weather here isnt too great. I reaches about 5 degC every once in a while. Usually find myself in a pair of shorts playing basketball;)

CRICKET NEWS:
Have been watching the cricket series on a stream I found on mirc. Its been quite boring because of the flat pitches. Hopefully the last test will be on a nice green surface with the ball bouncing all over the place. So far I think the Indians have come out in front and the Paki master plan has failed miserably. They underestimated the Indian batsmen and were under the impression that Shoiab and Kaneria could take 20 Indian wickets on any surface in match.
For the last test Im hoping that Ganguly gets that one final try. I see it like this.....if he does well, good for him and for India (well not exactly) and if he fails the whole state of Bengal wont have reason to prove why he should be in the team. In my opinion I think Ganguly's chances of making a come back are less than that of Britney spears having another hit single. He only has a negative influence on the team no matther how he plays (for example the big fight between him and Dravid in the first test).
At the same time I think that if Inzi does not play, there is every chance that Pakistan will shave every bit of grass of that surface before the last test. There is no way in hell that team is going to play on a bowling surface without having Inzi's batting the back them up.

FORMULA 1 NEWS:
A lot seems to be going on in the world of Formula 1 although it is just the testing season. The new 248 F1 ("F2006") seems to be leagues ahead of anyone else. There is every chance that the season might start of like the one in 2004. But at the same time I feel that Renault has been very silent over the last three weeks. I feel that might be taking that road Ferrari takes every year by keeping their whole plan very quite and then relasing a killer car!
Karthikeyan has managed to get the second testing spot with Williams. I was worried that he would be out of action for a year and then would just fade away. You cant really be doing nothing for a year in the world of Formula 1. I dont expect him to win a world championship or anything but just hope that he leaves a mark in F1 (*WISHFUL THINKING MODE* maybe a podium finish.....:D). I dont really know why, but I actually find the pre and post season talk more than the racing season itself. Its probably becuase I have not gotten a chance to watch an F1 race WITH English commentary in a long long time.

Other than that, have been listening to quite a bit of Manowar that Mrinal gave me. They are actually quite poetic! Seem to like their music quite a bit. I never thought Id say this but.....Thanks Mrini.

So I think its high time you guys started posting again. Ill try my best to keep this blog updated.

Take your pick as cmu screened the most expensive porno ever made "PIRATES" in the main auditorium. It's part of a tradition where one film a year is advertised as TBA, and is a porn flick. Two years ago they screened a 3D movie (goggles and all). Admission is $1 and partly funded by our activities fee. Topic of great controversy here (graduate students protested).

Where do you stand on the matter? I personally would have gone to watch it, but I had a crazy physics exam the next day. Thanking my stars that I didn't have the exam in that auditorium (some people did).

Kicked ass! Nothing like military aviation technology to get one on a high! Discussing miltech with folks from Northtrop Grumman, Boeing and Raytheon, along with those from MiG and Rosoboronexport was enlightning to say the least. Not to mention sitting inside the cockpits of the F-16, T-50, Eurofighter Typhoon, A380, AH-64A Apache, CH-47 Chinook, Dassault Falcon 2000, the EADS Mako HEAT.... ;)

Oh, and flying in training simulators was fun too.

Will post pictures once I convert them to a reasonable file size (8.0 MB, what were the people at Canon thinking?) Knowing my knack for getting things done in a hurry, this may take a few days, so dont hold your breath ;).

I never quite figured out why the sexual urge of men and women differ so much. And I never have figured out the whole Venus and Mars thing. I have never figured out why men think with their head and women with their heart.

FOR EXAMPLE: One evening last week, my girlfriend and I were getting into bed.

Let me tell you...she was so excited. She must have thought I was one wave short of a shipwreck. I started to think she was testing me because she asked for a tennis bracelet when she doesn't even know how to play tennis. I think I threw her for a loop when I said, "That's fine, honey." She was almost nearing sexual satisfaction from all of the excitement. Smiling with excited anticipation she finally said, "I think this is all
dear, let's go to the cashier."

I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out, "No honey, I don't feel like it."

Her face just went completely blank as her jaw dropped with a baffled WHAT?"

I then said "honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for a while. You're just not in touch with my financial needs as a man enough for me to satisfy your shopping needs as a woman." And just when she had this look like she was going to kill me, I added, "Why can't you just love me for who I am and not for the things I buy you?"

The King has returned after a LONG break... and after a quick, unplanned trip to GREECE (aka Hellas) that was simple HEISS... (and for the guys i have to tell you that greek chicks are REALLY GORGEOUS.... like... REEEEEEAAAALLLY) shit... i cant describe it.

realised that my high school math was really useful in reading greek, and my kickass (l33t) linguistic ski11z combined with a pretty damn good knowledge about ancient hellenic culture helped me become the official tour-guide for my family :)

yeah, it was the bomb.

im still fucking single.... much to the sadistic pleasure of those among you who secretly want me but cant have me... yet >_< lmao. (and i pray to the heavens and hells that none of the above would be male XD)

Other than that he also is a very decent driver. Personally I am quite happy with the move. I was getting a bit tired of old Rubens. Although I must admit I am very suprised...
Ferrari was constantly on the look out for Kimi who doesnt look like he budge for a while. I expected Ferrari to be looking for the likes of Button/Alonsso/Trulli etc. Never thought about Massa.

Anyways I think Massa is a good choice. We have drive really well in Sauber and he is a pretty young driver. Lets see how next years season will go.

People are probably wondering what the hell is going on here. I got a call from Mrinal last night going 'What the hell is going on?' just before I was going to sleep, so here's a quick clear up of what the hell was going on.

Atul (schumy) started his blog about 6 months ago with his first post referring to Abhyuday (Om3n) by his old IM name, 'Rap Devil'. Abhyuday just noticed this, and didn't appreciate it. He Replied in, let's just say, not so diplomatic terms. That pissed me off because of the kind of implications it had, and I made a post on my own blog about it. Atul got on MSN later and I linked him to the posts, and he was pretty surprised about it (to some extent, so was I) and replied in kind. I think Abhyuday saw where we he went wrong and apoligized for it, and in the end so did atul.

Abhyuday promptly killed a furby, and I think that covers that.

Its been a long time since I have posted (not that I blog very often). But seeing the dormancy in this blog it makes be quite sad. You cannot really expect me or Sam to blog cause we are just the ‘rebound’ers. We wait for a post by Rishi or Abhuday and pounce on every little opinion they have;)
As far as Mrinal is concerned I’m waiting for his 5th May 2005 post. Should be coming in soon.

I haven’t been up to much good in Dubai. Seeing my idol getting owned in the sport of F1 is not helping either. Although I must admit watching the Canadian gp did brighten my hopes. I am also convinced there is a GOD after seeing Alonso crash out in that manner. The thing that annoys me the most is that I cant go for the race and to top it of my subscription of ART sports has expired. So I cant even watch it on TV:( Another annoying thing is that India is playing just one crapy tri series in this whole vacation of mine. (I am referring to cricket for those who dint get that)But on a positive note I can watch the Wimbledon and the Ashes.

I am in the process of watching the 4th season of 24. Am presently on the 18th episode so I dont want ANY posts about the show from you Sam. This is your first and only warning.

June 3 through 11 - Do stuff in India. I have to spend at least a day in Pune, and a day in Aurangabad, so that leaves the rest of the time for Bombay. What's there to do in Bombay that doesn't involve getting stuck in traffic and/or having to take local trains? (No you are not going to convince me to take one of those, don't bother)

June 12 - Fly back to Dubai

July 3 - Fly to Houston

July 8 - Back to Austin for the summer semester.

I still don't have any fixed plans for the time I'm in India, so suggestions are welcome.

Sorry, I've tried and there's really no way to fit it into my schedule for India.

I've got to fit Houston, London, Dubai, India (Bombay, Pune and Aurangabad) all in the space of a month, and India only gets 9 days tops, out of which I'll be spending at least a couple of days in Pune and A'bad each.

This is of course, given that the trip is still on. Regardless, I can't make it. I'm more than willing to meet up with the lot of you in Bombay though. Where do you all live? Or rather, how far from Juhu do you live? I have little to no clue as to how Bombay is structured, except that where Rishi lives is far, far away. And that the trains are horrible. Between the trains and the traffic, I'd pick the traffic.

So about the Goa trip, I'll post here (and on my own blog) exactly what my schedule will be for the coming months, and whether or not I'll be paying you sods a visit. As it stands, the 'second cunning plan' is the one I'll most likely go with, so an early june trip would work best.

Me, my cuz (hes about a year older than me), two childhood frnds (they're sisters) (and maybe 2 of their cousins) are all goin to goa in mid-june (date not finalised but will be soon)...
I was wondering if the whole of NBS (or even a fraction of it) is interested in joining teh party... judging by Sam's short-stop in India.. im guessing he wont be able to make it... but yes sam... youre invited too. if any of you are worried about "not fitting in" among 'old frnds' then dont worry too much... cuz its been almost 8 years since i last actually met them =P lol... so itll be like meeting new ppl anyway. ^__^
